Choose a Starlink Mini mount for an RV by identifying the exact contact surface first. Verified flat ferrous steel may support a magnetic route. Aluminum and fiberglass do not hold magnets. Suitable interior glass may support a parked-use suction route, while a verified fixed structure or firm, level ground may call for a bracket or tripod.
RV roofs are not one universal material or shape. The same vehicle can combine metal panels, fiberglass caps, composite roof layers, glass, vents, racks and trim. Select the mount by the surfaces it will actually touch and by whether the setup will remain parked.

Step 1: Locate the real contact points
Decide where every foot, cup, bracket or tripod leg will land. Do not describe the whole RV as "steel" or "fiberglass" when the mount touches only a small part of it.
Check for:
- roof seams and material transitions;
- curved front or rear caps;
- vents, air conditioners and solar hardware;
- roof racks, rails and awning structures;
- skylights, sunroofs and interior glass;
- soft, flexible or damaged surfaces;
- cable-entry points and door seals.
If you cannot identify the material at the planned contact points, stop before choosing a mount.
Step 2: Verify whether the roof area is ferrous steel
For a magnetic route, use a small household magnet at every planned contact point. Strong attraction at one point does not verify the whole footprint.
Follow the full vehicle roof magnet test. The selected area also needs to be clean, flat and suitable for the product's documented contact geometry.
If every point is verified, compare the footprint and stationary-use limits of the ST70 Magnetic Vehicle Mount. Do not infer moving-use approval from the material test.
If the RV roof is aluminum
Aluminum does not provide a magnetic attachment surface. A larger or stronger magnet does not change that material fact.
Do not place a magnetic mount on an unverified metal-looking panel. Instead, identify whether the RV has:
- suitable clean, smooth interior glass for a parked-use suction option;
- a verified fixed wall, pipe, rack or structural location that can receive an appropriate bracket;
- a nearby ground area suitable for a tripod deployment.
Avoid improvising with hidden steel plates, adhesive patches or unverified spacers. These change the installation and may introduce unknown structural, finish and load risks.
If the RV roof is fiberglass or composite
Fiberglass and most non-ferrous composite roof surfaces do not attract magnets. A magnetic route should be rejected unless the exact contact points have a separate, verified ferrous structure and the full installation has been reviewed.
Fiberglass caps can also be curved. Even when a nearby metal component exists, the intended mounting feet may not achieve full contact. Choose another surface rather than forcing the footprint across a curve or seam.
For a temporary parked setup, suitable interior glass or a field tripod may be a simpler route. For a fixed installation, request a structural and product fit review instead of assuming the exterior shell is load-bearing.
If suitable interior glass is available
Interior suction mounting can avoid relying on a non-magnetic roof panel, but the glass must meet the product requirements.
Inspect every planned cup location for:
- tint-film edges;
- defroster lines;
- cracks, chips or damage;
- heavy curvature;
- textured or printed zones;
- interference with visibility, controls or airbags.
The ST128 Interior Glass Suction Mount is presented for suitable glass and parked use. Check cup condition and surface cleanliness before every deployment, and remove or stow the system before driving unless the product page documents otherwise.
If the RV has a rack, pole or fixed structure
A roof rack or exterior structure is not automatically compatible with a bracket. Confirm the structure material, dimensions, condition, manufacturer restrictions and the exact attachment interface.
The ST30-W Wall and Pipe Bracket requires fit review. Do not drill into an RV roof, wall or structural component without confirming the installation requirements and the consequences for wiring, waterproofing and the vehicle manufacturer's instructions.
When a field tripod is the better answer
A tripod separates the terminal support from the RV roof material. It can be useful at a parked camp or work site when firm, level ground and a clear-sky location are available.
The ST3-07 Field Tripod still requires a stable placement, a safe cable route and protection from trip hazards. It is not a substitute for reading the current product limits or official terminal guidance.
Check sky view, cable routing and strain relief
Mount selection is only part of the setup. The terminal needs an appropriate view of the sky, and the cable route should not pull on the terminal, mount or connector.
Before committing to a location:
- check for roof equipment and nearby obstructions;
- plan a route that avoids sharp edges and moving components;
- keep the cable from becoming a trip or door-closing hazard;
- confirm connector and power compatibility;
- use strain relief so the cable does not load the mount.
Browse power and cable routing hardware only after the device, connector, voltage and installation route are verified.
Parked use and moving use are separate decisions
An RV mount that works while parked is not automatically suitable on the road. Moving conditions add vibration, impact, airflow and changing cable loads.
